Twin Lakes, Colorado is my favorite spot in the entire state. If you want serene lakes nestled up against the tallest mountain in all of Colorado, then you have found the right place. It's a popular spot for hikers to grab the Continental Divide Trail, and for through-hikers of the Colorado Trail to stop, camp, and pick up supplies. So although it can feel very remote and otherworldly, there's a steady stream of people, which means there are nice amenities nearby as well.
Just a short drive up from Buena Vista and on your way towards Independence Pass and then Aspen, this location is pretty easy to get to, and there are some fantastic and accessible spots for an elopement or even a small wedding.
If you want more hotel accommodations or some nicer restaurants to convene at after your elopement, Leadville is just up the road a few miles and is your quintessential Colorado mining town.
Twin Lakes is also a great location if you want to do some adventuring for your elopement and go for a hike, or paddle board, or kayak. If you'd rather aim for a winter elopement, the snow-capped peaks over the lakes just can't be beaten.
I like to think of Twin Lakes as the lesser-known gem of the state. It's not going to be nearly as crowded as Crested Butte or one of the ski towns, and you get that coveted combination of alpine lakes and incredible mountain views with easy parking and completely accessible photo spots. There's no permit to get married here and even your pets are welcome (woof!)
And that's why I think you should get married at Twin Lakes.
