I have photographed several weddings at Ironworks, the historic event venue in the heart of Denver. This review is over-all pretty positive but I think it's worth the time to look at some key reasons why I think this venue is pretty awesome. The building itself was built around the turn of the century and was called the Midwest Steel and Ironworks. The building itself was built in three sections over three decades so there is definitely a mix of industrial, post-roaring 20s and the more modern 1950s. The building has been completely renovated, however, and boasts tons of amenities like a beautiful new bar and gigantic doors overlooking an amazing outdoor patio.
Ambience: If you can’t tell by the above paragraph, I’m a fan of this place. There is a lot of history that you can feel just by walking in the doors. The space is admittedly smaller, but I think it lends an intimacy which the darker interior and lush furniture accentuate. I think this place is one of the most romantic venues in Denver.
Location: This venue is located right next to the football stadium which can make it a little difficult to get to on game days. Traffic heading to the stadium can be a pain although the venue does have parking available. I’ve been in the unfortunate situation of attempting to access this location just after a game or concert ends and all the roads leading in are blocked off. It’s difficult to schedule around the stadium since a lot of couples plan their weddings well more than a year in advance. Just keep this in mind when touring the venue.
Facilities and Amenities: This venue offers lists of preferred caterers and rental companies which is quite nice. I’ve photographed there several times and I’ve always been impressed with the staff, their attention to detail and communication. Event venue staff can really make or break your wedding experience so it’s amazing to take note of.
Photogenic Spaces: Of course this is why I love this space. There are SO MANY cool spaces here, from their gigantic staircase which is perfect for wedding party shoots, their couches upstairs and downstairs, the bar, the amazing chandeliers and then of course, all the industrial brick you could ever want just outside.
Ultimately, the decision to get married at the Ironworks Event Venue depends on your personal preferences, needs, and the specific offerings of the venue. You should definitely visit the venue in person, ask detailed questions, and gather all the information you need before making a decision. However, this photographer gives this historic venue two definite thumbs up!
