As a wedding photographer, most of my couples have already set their budget and found their venue by the time they get to me. I still keep my eye on wedding trends though, especially when it comes to trends in wedding budget. Wedding photography, like any service in the wedding industry, can be priced all over the spectrum, from just a couple thousand dollars all the way to $10,000 or more! The way I price my wedding photography directly relates to average cost of weddings in the United States, the average cost of my desired client's wedding and the services I offer.
Now that you have picked a date, you should look at booking your venue and your photographer. After that, you can celebrate! Those are some of the toughest decisions in wedding planning and you can cross them off your list! Hooray!! Now on to the fun stuff...like your engagement session!

The wedding day is one of the most important days in a person's life and it is only natural for couples to want to share it with family and friends. As a wedding photographer and videographer for many years, I’ve seen trends come and go without much fanfare. A current (and very interesting) trend I’ve been following is having a social media concierge onsite at your wedding. I met a social media concierge at a styled shoot earlier this year and was blown away by the concept. Considering I literally hire people to follow me around and do my behind the scenes while I'm photographing weddings, it’s a novel and not too far fetched idea for my couples to hire one on the biggest days of your life! So what is a social media concierge and do you need one? I did some research for all of us and now we can dive in together.
It is hard to break with tradition, especially with so many voices out there telling you all the things you need to do. I’ve joked that I wish I could get married 100 times so I could throw 100 different parties. Decision fatigue is real, friends.

Certainly the most popular time of day for photographs is the golden hour, that 60-90minutes before the sun sets where the light softens and turns a flattering shade of gold, deepening shadows and saturating colors. The photos you see on Instagram and Pinterest are routinely shot during this time of day because it is one of the most aesthetic looking and one of the easiest for photographers to shoot in. Most people have heard of the golden hour.
After 10+ years of of being a wedding photographer, I've made a list of the most important wedding planning tips to share with you. It's a wedding planning list you won't find on most wedding websites, it's just my personal list based on what I've seen.
Here’s the Deal. Nobody likes taking huge group family portraits on their wedding day. The people in the photos don’t like it. The people waiting on the people in the photos don’t like it, and typically, the couple are only having those photos taken because they feel some sort of pressure from society and social norms and nobody even knows why.
Why?
It most likely stems from back in the day when photography was relatively new and the only time people had photos taken were at weddings. You know, back when Lincoln was president and we were in the Civil War.
Couples face TONS of options when it comes to wedding photographers (I think I counted 4000+ in my own market of Kansas City) so the process can seem incredibly overwhelming. Not only are there so many to choose from, but each photographer has their own unique style. Do you want every single moment documented no matter how silly you look? Do you want your photos to appear as though they came straight out of Vogue? Somewhere in between? Never fear, that’s where I can help. Keep reading to learn all about the most popular wedding photography styles and what sets them apart from the rest.
But what are we supposed to do, those of us with mountains in our hearts? Are we supposed to just bite the bullet and get our engagement photos done in the West Bottoms like every other couple within a 50-mile radius?
Fear not, my friends. For I have put together a list of some uncommonly cool places for your engagement photo sessions. A couple of these have a mountainous feel to them while others are decidedly more urban. Either way, it’s something a little bit more unique and tailored to you as a couple. . . instead of the standard KC fare.
Believe it or not, one of the best first things to do is decide what you want your wedding to look like. Will you have a church ceremony followed by a reception? Do you want to have it all at one place? Maybe a rustic barn or a swanky venue? Do you want a cocktail hour for your guests so you can take pictures in-between? Do you want to rent a limo and drive you and your wedding party all over the city? Do you want to meet up with your beloved for an hour or two beforehand, just the two of you, at a meaningful location? How do you want to end your night? Breathlessly dancing under a disco ball or with a sparkler send-off?
These are questions you get to ponder as you create your wedding timeline. I'll show you what a "typical" timeline looks like, but honestly, I don't work much with "typical" couples. . . and far be it from me to crush your creativity when it comes to your day!
It's always interesting reading about the different takes people have and it can get confusing when different designers and magazines say conflicting things. However, there are several trends that everyone agrees on, colors and styles that are holdovers from 2021 but some fun new things on the horizon. Here, I have compiled a list of the top trends for 2022 that I am looking forward to the most.
